Tonights Gonna be a Terrible Night...
This year I was unable to watch a majority of the Superbowl. I honestly had little preference of who should win or lose, so I chose to do some other things to occupy my time. However, every year I try to make a point to at least watch the half-time show. This year I was surprised to see that the group The Black Eyed Peas, would be performing (nominated for 2010 album of the year).
I thought that this was an odd choice for a "musical group" especially after past half-time shows have consisted of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, etc. However, I decided to be open-minded and give the Black Eyed Peas some respect....until I heard/saw them "perform."
I'm not very familiar with their music, but honestly...who the fuck let this "group" get this far? This was most untalented performance I have EVER seen on a nationally televised event. I would describe their sound as 'nails on a chalkboard,' but I don't think that would be fair to chalkboards. Two members of the "group" don't even do anything!!! Also, this Fergie chick has some of the worst vocals I have ever heard in my entire life. Talk about tone-deaf. And, what about the main guy? The only time he sang a note is when they auto-tuned his voice with that awful effect.
We should be embarrassed in ourselves for letting such a terrible, untalented, generic group get as far as they have. The only way this could have been any worse is if Justin Bieber would have jumped on stage and joined the Black Eyed Peas by doing the macarena. This performance was so frustrating that I am literally getting a head-ache just thinking about it. Because of this massive head-ache I am longer able to finish my rant. So, in closing, the Packers might have won the Superbowl, but after watching the Black Eyed Peas halftime show, I believe everyone lost.

Snow
So after being snowed-in for three days straight, I'm starting to get stir crazy. Being home for such a long time definitely makes me miss tour. I can not wait to get back on the road. But even more than that, I can't wait for all the snow to melt and summer to arrive.
But until then, I guess I'll be stuck watching these...

New Graduate B-Sides
So today my band posted some demos from our last album that didn't make the cut. If you're interested you can listen to them or download them here http://thegraduate.bandcamp.com/
On bandcamp you have the option to download the songs for free, or pay whatever you'd like! Its entirely up to you! Just please tell your friends! Ever since Radiohead released In Rainbows in a pay-what-you-want format, we've wanted to try it out. I'm really excited to see how it works for us.
Let me know what you think of the songs!!

We need to stop Nickelback...
With my blog today, I decided to take a closer look at one of the worst songs of all time, Photograph, by Nickelback. I have come to the conclusion that everyone who enjoys the band Nickelback not only has a abnormally lower I.Q. than the average person, but also lacks a soul.
However, rather than questioning why these people are supporting such a terrible group, I decided to look a little deeper into what exactly Nickelback is trying to say. So, directly below here I posted the lyrics.
"Photograph"
Look at this photograph
Everytime I do it makes me laugh
How did our eyes get so red
And what the hell is on Joey's head
And this is where I grew up
I think the present owner fixed it up
I never knew we'd ever went without
The second floor is hard for sneaking out
And this is where I went to school
Most of the time had better things to do
Criminal record says I broke in twice
I must have done it half a dozen times
I wonder if it's too late
Should i go back and try to graduate
Life's better now than it was back then
If I was them I wouldn't let me in
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, god, I
Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.
Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.
Remember the old arcade
Blew every dollar that we ever made
The cops hated us hangin' out
They say somebody went and burned it down
We used to listen to the radio
And sing along with every song we know
We said someday we'd find out how it feels
To sing to more than just the steering wheel
Kim's the first girl I kissed
I was so nervous that I nearly missed
She's had a couple of kids since then
I haven't seen her since god knows when
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, god, I
Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.
Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.
I miss that town
I miss the faces
You can't erase
You can't replace it
I miss it now
I can't believe it
So hard to stay
Too hard to leave it
If I could I relive those days
I know the one thing that would never change
Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.
Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.

Everytime I do it makes me laugh
Everytime I do it makes me...
First off, what exactly is on Joey's head? Could it be a fedora? Maybe its just an empty beer case. Or, what if its one of those Jamaican hats with the fake dreadlocks?
Secondly, who would have gone and burned down their favorite arcade? I think the most logical explanation is that someone from the future knew that Nickelback liked to hang out there, so they traveled back in time and tried to destroy Nickelback before they started.
Thanks a lot Nickelback, you left us with way too many unanswered questions, how am I suppose to fall asleep tonight?

The New Year
As 2011 arrives I take a look back at 2010. The year started off pretty slow, but things picked up once my band (facebook.com/thegraduaterock) signed to Razor and Tie in April. After signing we went directly to Baltimore for a little over a month to finish our sophomore album. This was probably my favorite month out of the year (mainly because of the awesomeness that Baltimore contains).
After being home for a few months we finally got back on the road. We first toured with The Bigger Lights, YouMeAndEveryoneWeKnow, and Weather Star. After many drunken adventures and suitcases filled with urine(I'll have to explain that in a different post), we made our way back home to release our new album, "Only Every Time."
Immediately following the release, we hit the road again for a month and a half with Ludo, There for Tomorrow, and Tommy and the Highpilots. This was an amazing time, to say the least. During this tour we also got the chance to make a few music videos (one has already been released, the other will be released to the world sometime early within the new year). After playing great shows and drinking Ludo's beer all across the country we wrapped up that tour at one of my favorite venues, Stl's the Pageant.
With literally no time off between tours, we jumped on tour with Automatic Loveletter. We definitely enjoyed getting to play some places that we usually don't get a chance to. We also enjoyed illegally staying in a hotel room in Boston that somehow no one paid for(long story). We concluded this tour in our favorite city, Baltimore. We spent Halloween weekend in Btown enjoying Naddy Bohs, Yuengling, and Resurrection. Unfortunately, our van (Amadeus), decided that he needed a rest and decided to break down on us. So after dropping off the tour, and in the middle of a 15 hour drive home, at 3am Amadeus decided that he would turn off his lights. Luckily, we made it home.
We concluded our year by playing a few local shows and going back to a somewhat normal routine. There are too many stories to fit into this blog, but needless to say, 2010 was filled with enough adventures for a life-time. As we enter into 2011, its unclear of what the year will bring. However, I'm pretty excited to see what lies ahead. In order to make 2011 the best year that I can, I decided to make a bucketlist. Here it is...
1) Go on Springbreak
2) Go to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany
3) Release more Music
4) Learn more German, Italian, and French
5) Go somewhere I've never been
6) Move somewhere new
7) Create my own company
8) Don't die in a plane crash
9) Sell at least 1 Million Albums
10) Make a Million Dollars
Ok, maybe only a few of those are realistic, but wish me luck.
I hope everyone had a great 2010, and hopefully a better 2011!
